Dear
Hunter,
Greetings from Cougar Creek Lodge here in the wilderness of British
Columbia, Canada!
I am writing to update you on our ’04 hunting season which
we have just completed. Our hunters took some very good Moose,
Bear, and Deer this season. Even though we had our worst weather
and toughest hunting conditions ever.
The season started out with two solid weeks of heavy rains and
flooding. Roads were washed out and we couldn’t get into
many of our prime hunting areas. Then, it cleared and temperatures
went into the high 70’s and 80’s with clear skies
and a full moon! Finally, (or so we all thought), the snow came
early in mid October. But, with over two feet of snow falling
in one night alone at the Outpost camp, traveling was more than
tough. Rising temperatures caused melting and flooding again,
lots of trouble getting to our prime hunting areas. Freezing rain
moved in, then temperatures dropped and the roads became a solid
sheet of ice and frozen crusted snow for the prime November mule
deer rut. Even so, we hunted hard and took some very nice animals.
Last year was one of our best seasons ever with very good weather
and hunting conditions. Ron Emmelkamp, our guide outfitter, has
been guiding on this territory for more than 40 years. He says,
“every once in a while we get a year like this one”.
So congratulations to the hunters in this newsletter and to all
of our successful hunters this season! Everyone had to work hard
to get it done this year. You all did a great job!
We’re all looking forward to next hunting season!
We still have prime dates open for our Fall ’05 Moose Bear
